The Island of Telendos

Overview
Telendos is a big rock in the East Aegean Sea and lies at a distance of about 750 metres from the west coast of Kalymnos. Its landscape is mountainous except for the east side, which faces Kalymnos. Apart from its beautiful landscape, it is also a historical area which offers a great interest for every visitor.

Brief History
The island of Telendos was joined with Kalymnos until the middle of the 6th Century A.d. It was during the early Christian Period (4th-7th Century) that the most significant developments are observed on Telendos. The monuments of churches, bathhouses, tombs and houses that are preserved, provide evidence for that.

The Princess of Telendos
When a closer look is taken at the mountain across the water, it is noticed that the different rock ledges seem to take the shape of a body resting over the sea, with a big face. This is visible looking out from the top of the mountain.
